Hi, about a week ago, I deleted a few icons from the dock that I just don't need, apparently I deleted the wrong one. I don't remember which one it was but the dock force closed, and now I can not get it to restart. Here is the print out of debug when running in terminal. It's kind of long but I got everything, not knowing what was relevant, or needed. Running Zorin 8 (based on Ubuntu 13.10), generic Intel GPU.

Hello and thank you for this bug report,

According to the logs, it seems that this crash is due to GMenu applet.
Is it maybe possible to get a full backtrace of this crash with GDB? It's not so complicated because all details about that are available there: ddd.

Tried installing the dbg symbols package, same result in synaptic manager, and terminal, this is the output of the terminal

What else can I try? I'm willing to do whatever is needed.

Is it maybe possible to add our Weekly ppa?

I installed the weekly ppa, it installed some updates, the computer restarted, I opened the menu and clicked on Cairo-Dock, same situation the settings window opened to "Advanced", unable to go to the "Simple Menu", changing changing the location on the screen does nothing to help the situation. When clicking on the most of the menu sections (System, Position, Quick Browser, Applications Menu), the program force-closes. When trying to close the program, I have to click on the "X" several times. When clicking the X, the window will disappear then reappear.

What I did was
sudo apt-get purge cairo-dock-*

I was having issues with Debian Wheezy packages and this resolved compatibility issues for me (I moved my .config/cairo-dock from my old xubuntu install and it worked).

You could also do
mv .config/cairo-dock .config/cairo-dock.bk

This will allow you to start fresh. Then install cairo-dock from the ppa and see what happens (do not install any extras from the official releases for your system at this point).

@rk4262: is it possible to get a backtrace of this crash with GDB before modifying the configuration?

Let me see if I can explain this correctly. I was reading ahead on the page where your link sent me to install gdb. I then installed ddd, and ran it. I was trying to find a way to copy the output of the ddd command, doing this there was several times I had to close it and restart it, and also to press the "RUN" command, after several times of doing this, I pressed the run command again and Cairo-Dock actually opened, and the dock appeared. However, even though the dock was there, it wasn't clickable, and changing any settings had no effect at all. Then I tried to use the "Simple" settings menu, causing the settings menu to crash, the dock is still visible on the desktop but is still not clickable.

I tried going into the menu and clicking on the icon, that opened a new settings menu, and made the dock clickable somewhat. I then opened the theme settings menu, and noticed that it said "importing theme", so I remembered that I had also been changing that before it crashed. I thought that maybe it was that I tried to set it to an unsupported theme (or something similar), and that had crashed it. I set it to the "Basic Default Single" theme, clicked apply and it crashed again. I don't understand this new actions.

I did follow brianw's suggestion, and I'm at the same place I was, it had no effect at all.

Finally after running ddd multiple times, something managed to happen and now it works correctly. I don't know what happened, but it's working. If you want me to run any more debugging to see what's changed, I'll be glad to do so.

If you still have the crash, can you install the debugging symbols (cairo-dock-*-dbg packages) before launching GDB?

Hi !

I'm a regular, satisfied user of Cairo-dock ! Thanks to the dev

I've changed my computer this week, and also changed my linux distro.

So I went to Cubuntu, which is a Cinnamon version of Ubuntu.

Installed Cairo-dock 3.4 right after the system, and launched it !

> OUPS ! It did crashed 3 times... I think "he he, He did crashed, but seen it !".
So, It started in maintenance mode...
After a few search, I've found that the problem came from the "Application Menu", So I disabled it, and it ran fine !!

But this widget is really mandatory, so I'm annoyed !

I've tried to install gnome (without removing cinnamon, which I prefer), but within lightdm, gnome doesn't start correctly (goes back to lightdm almost instantly....)

I've then made a "gdb" trace of the bug... Hope this will help to solve the problem !!

Since it's a bit long, I've made a "pastebin" of it : http://pastebin.com/8himFKwL

PS : tried to register on the forum, but cannot login !?? (my account is "napo7", if some admin can have a look??)

Regards !
