I am new at Ubuntu 3 months only, and started on Gix-Dock / Cairo-Dock only yesterday 16-Jun-2013.

I wish to bring to your attention a "hot issue of the day": START BUTTON

I only need to open any newspaper of this world to see that Microsoft has dropped the "Start Button" from Windows-8 and the crowd is very angry about this. Sales dropped 20% over.

One more factor, Ubuntu announced new version 13.10 to be implemented by October 2013. They now focus at "downsize" telephones, Tablets and other portable devices, AND, they will try to reclaim higher position in this market place.

GOOD OPPORTUNITY, if you implement the "Start Button" on time, then it will be on the top of the charts. Please don't miss this chance.

Now, I am not technical enough to tell you how to develop the "Start Button" but I am a super veteran computer user. When much younger, used to design big IBM systems for Finance Industry like Banks, Insurance, Oil, Airlines, and others.

To my eyes, all that you need to do is to take out a small sub-section of Gix-Dock to include Applications Menu and Quick Browser.
But, Quick Browser to show the files that are inside the last folder. Please open Windows-7 on any computer and study the "Start Button" because this is exactly what the "Topic of the day" is all about.

If you need me for anything, don't hesitate.

I shall open a champagne when I see you on the Podium of Champions.

Kind regards,

Raoul Soibelmann

the Applications Menu is to open applications
the Quick Browser is to browse your home folder (or any other folder you define)
the Recent Events applet is to open previously used files/folders/programs

additionally you can use Gnomenu or Cardapio in the dock

Hello and thank you for the idea

As fabounet said, if you want a copy of the Windows menu, you can install Gnomenu or Cardapio and use the applet with the same name => mc_album.php?a=10

Note that on the development, Application Menu applets now has a search box to quickly launch programs
