if your PC freezes and your hardisk starts making a strange noise, cut the power !
just kidding
select the mode with the multi-session (to use GDM), and you can try the other (pure standalone session, no GDM) later.

I'm installing the script and it returns:

Warning: couldn't communicate with Compiz;
Please open 'ccsm', enable the 'Dbus' plug-in, and relaunch the script.

The Dbus Plugin is activated now but it keeps returning the same warning.

@Fabounet: How do you set the configuration of Compiz without gnome? Are you still using Gconf?

@ fabounet: can I open a new project on Launchpad linked to Cairo-Dock project and push all the files from the tarball in a new bzr branch?

As I have already talked on another thread, I use another method based on gnome-session. As I know there are some needs, I'd also like to create a package for that.
It would be really similar to the gnome-session-fallback
A xsession file, a gnome-session file, and a script to detect WM (I'll use the same script to start), and if I'm brave enough some help files.
My idea was to use the cairo-dock-session name, so it could be integrated easily in distributions. What do you think about it ?

@SQP: this is funny, I was just adding this possibility into the source code

But this is not easy to integrate... This is different if we are using a Gnome, XFCE4, KDE4 session or something else.
I've added a support for gnome-session (it's easy, this gnome-session program launches nautilus, all launchers in ~/.config/autostart, etc.) but it will not work on XFCE or KDE. But we can add this session into Natty and Oneiric packages for the moment.

@ fabounet: I don't know if it's a good idea to upload these files there but it can be reverted (and files removed) => http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~cairo-dock-team/cairo-dock-core/cairo-dock/revision/849

PS: @SQP: thank you for your ideas given there: http://glx-dock.org/bg_topic.php?t=5558&pos=0#mess_68764

After having discussed about the name on IRC, a new project has been created on Launchpad: Cairo-Dock Session
A BZR branch is also available: https://code.launchpad.net/cairo-dock-session

Oh sorry, I forgot your name (as you can see on IRC we didn't choose this name because you wanted to use it ).

But this project can include a "Cairo-Dock session" for Compiz, Gnome, KDE, XFCE, etc.
It's maybe better to regroup all of them.

even if the idea sounds cool, I guess those packages would have too different goals to be merged.
My first dependency would be gnome-session, which has nothing to do with fabounet's standalone session.

cairo-dock-gnome-session would nicely fit to my idea as it describes exactly what it would do, and I would be able to add some related suggests.
(and zeitgeist isn't imho in the required list)

Yes but we can create different folders: cairo-dock-compîz-standalone, cairo-dock-kde-session, cairo-dock-gnome-session, etc.
If we want to create package, we can easily split each folder or selecting the right file, etc.
