When I drag a url from firefox into a stack, a weblink is created in the stack, but the name it is given is mostly useless.
For example, if I drag the home page of Glx-Dock (http://www.glx-dock.org/index.php) to the stack, I get a link created with the name "index.php".
If I drag the url onto my desktop or onto the gnome panel, I get a link with the name "Glx-Dock / Cairo-Dock - Home", clearly a much better name than "index.php" !
I think Google Chrome might not have this issue with Cairo, but I like to use firefox.

Hey!
I can reproduce this behavior with Chromium 9.0.597.94, so I guess it's not just Firefox.
+1 for better naming! |

Yes, it can be interesting
Good idea!
@ fabounet: We can use curl and 'title' tag, something like that curl glx-dock.org |grep "<title>" | head -n1 |cut -d\> -f2 |cut -d\< -f1 |

A further enhancement would be for an option to display the favicon of the web page link.
But first, please let's get the naming fixed! |

not necessarily (if it's a png like our site, and not a 16x16 ico file; in the latter case, the result will not be good indeed, so we should maybe skip it). |

Once the naming gets fixed, I'd still like to see a favicon, even if it is poor resolution.
Besides, to show a favicon, I think you will need to add support for the user to define their own icon anyway, so they could use a different icon if the favicon is poor.
I like favicons because glx dock is is icon based - they go together.
Alternatively, why not allow firefox to create a .desktop file in a stack when dragging a firefox url into the stack?
You would have to make sure that clicking on the .desktop file in the stack opens firefox and not a text editor.
The .desktop already supports custom icons.
All I would need to do then is to drag the .desktop files I already have to the stack, and I will have my links with no effort.
(and if the dock can automatically download a favicon, even better!) |

I've added support for better naming, and favicon will follow in a near future
actually I've thought of a nice way: draw the favicon as an emblem. |

(Message added on the task #152)
Just want to bump this, as it has not made it into the task list yet.
This fix will make the stacks much more user friendly. |
