I use gmusicbrowser. When I right click the musicPlayer icon in Cairo-Dock (OpenGL) and select Find opened player, I get the following message:

Sorry, I couldn't detect any player.
if it is running, it is maybe because its version is too old and does not offer such service.

I'm using Cairo-Dock 2.2.0-beta1.

I have these modules installed which I thought allow gmusicbrowser to be detected by the musicPlayer applet.
  • perl-Net-DBus

  • perl-Gtk2-Notify

Hello y0z,

This player is not supported by musicPlayer. I'll have a look if it supports MPRIS protocol but it's too late to do that now

Hi matttbe,

Thanks for your response!

I updated gmusicbrowser to version 1.1.5 but glx-dock still will not detecting that it's playing...
As a test, I used the command dbus-send --print-reply --dest=org.gmusicbrowser /org/gmusicbrowser org.gmusicbrowser.CurrentSong. It displayed information on the song played by gmusicbrowser.

What does glx-dock look for when it tries to detect an open player?
I looked at the glx-dock DBUS api page http://www.glx-dock.org/ww_page.php?p=Control_your_dock_with_DBus
and the gmusicbrowsers DBUS api page: http://gmusicbrowser.org/dokuwiki/doku.php?id=dbus_api
But all I was able to do was to make myself feel dizzy trying to find the specific string

Let me know if I can do anything to help to get gmusicbrowser supported in glx-dock.

Hello y0z,

I think the best thing to do is to report a new feature request to gmusicbrowser devs in order to add MPRIS support (and enable it by default). Many players support MPRIS so gmusicbrowser can do it too!

it would be better, although it could be added to MusicPlayer with a few work.

MPRIS support is available for gmusicbrowser 1.1.x and the details are available here: http://forum.gmusicbrowser.org/index.php?topic=140.msg594#msg594
With MPRIS enabled in GMB, could you add support for GMB to musicPlayer?

(Message added on the task #59)

Hello,

I've committed and pushed my modifications about the integration of GMB into musicPlayer but I don't have many time to install and test the latest version of GMB.

Can you test it and report here if it works or not?

PS: I've updated our weekly ppa. A new version will be available soon!

Matttbe.. The updated musicPlayer applet works great!! GMB 1.5 shows up fine on the latest Glx-Dock. (I compiled the latest BZR version on Fedora 13)...
I tested out the options in the right click menu and they all work...

Glx-Dock is working great for me.. The album icon changes to show whatever album I play. You did goodness with adding GMB to the musicPlayer applet...

The only problem I see is with the song information popup window... The Artist, Title, and Album are correct...
However the Length is always 0:00, the Track n? is always 0, and Song n? is always 1/x.
(where x is the number of tracks on an album).
This number correctly changes whenever I play an album with different number of tracks.
I don't know if this is what is supposed to display; this is very first time I can use GMB with the musicPlayer applet.

It is not be a problem for me. I don't want visual notification when a song changes. I disabled the GMB notifier and the musicPlayer tooltop in Glx-Dock after I finished testing.

Cheers and thank you!!!

No problem, it was very easy to do

About the length, the track and the song number, there is maybe something wrong with GMB.

If you want, you can check all signals sent by GMB with 'dbus-monitor'.
And I think there is some tools to check if the application respects MPRIS specifications (mpris-tester, music plasmoid, etc.)

it's not very clear how to handle the track and such things
sometimes the names are different (track, track-number, length, etc)
maybe the applet doesn't look for the correct name.
