The latest stable release is the *3.4.0* : How to install it here.
Note: We just switched from BZR to Git on Github! (only to host the code and your future pull requests)
If I put too many icon into one sub-dock like shortcuts or stack, all icons will be so tiny that can't be distinguished.
How to resolve that?

My first thought would be for the fisheye effect to scale hovered-over icons up to full size no matter how much the dock has shrunk them. But i don't believe cairo-dock currently works this way
You would need a view with scrolling, I would say. Today, there isn't much choice: only Carroussel achieves such thing. However it may be that it is not enough.
If you choose a "SlideShow" view, you may have a better icon size, but still it will be tiny. Here I think a scrollable Slide view would be very nice... Or maybe something else ?...

with the "Slide" view you can cover almost all your desktop I wonder how many icons you have, but if it's too much even for this view, it's maybe that you should make another sub-dock
(for instance, you can instanciate Stack or Shortcuts 2 times)
Anyway I agree for a scrollable Slide view, or better

nope I haven't
@Ppmt : only the visible icons should be loaded then or maybe icons should be loaded in the main loop.
if this breaks too much code in the core it should be postponed after the 2.2 release.
