Hi all,
First let me define clearly how I will use Scroll in this post. Scroll= using the mouse's middle roller to roll up or down (I believe labeled as mouse buttons 4 and 5 but don't quote me on that).
Ever since I discovered that you can scroll between the multiple open instances of a particular launcher, I have used it extensively. In fact I don't think I've had to open the sub-menu for a launcher since getting used to it.
I have found myself trying to scroll through actual sub-docks, however. That doesn't work. My thought is, how cool would it be if it would? Just have to scroll through the various open items in the sub-docks. The only reason one would have to open a sub-dock is to actually launch something in it! Maybe even have it hierarchical, so if you have multiple instances of one app open in the sub-dock, then you would scroll through all open instances of that program too. |

dp you mean :
if you have a sub-dock with launchers A,B and C,
if A and B are launched, scrolling on the main icon would successively bring A and B windows on the top ? |

I would rather see that or example you scroll on the sub dock and launcher A comes on top of the box...you click it and hop it launched!!
is this what you mean onyxwolf?
then again your proposition is cool too Fabounet |

You hit it on the head fabounet! That is exactly what I meant. More accurately is that it will first bring up A, then when you scroll again it brings up B. Exactly like the scrolling over a launcher with multiple instances does now.
For those who haven't noticed it, if you have (for example) 3 Firefox windows open. If you scroll over the launcher it will make the first window of Firefox to be the active window. If you continue scrolling then it will be selecting the second. Exactly as if you opened the temporary sub-dock (the sub-dock made only when multiple instances of a task exists) with the multiple Firefox in it and had selected the middle one, but it is MUCH faster.
Ppmt, has an interesting proposal too; however, mine is a suggestion of speed, and I don't know how much quicker, or more convenient having it scroll through all launchers would be. I am all about the flavor though! Maybe it can be an option too! Have an action on wheel-scroll field for launcher behavior (maybe in the current Behaviour > Taskbar). |

Ppmt's idea is nice also, but the formost idea is more coherent with the current behavior (since class subdocks already behave like that)
so ok to implement it
@Ppmt : by the way I'm doing some upgrades to the DBus PopulateMenu function. I think I've remembered what you told me once about it |

Me i concur as ppmt said . Click on the subdock should as well launch an appli.
I have never understood 4 icons where displayed in the boxes. I know it's to not make a box too full but which icons you choose ! The boxes should display the first four icons and with scroll up&down on the box move inside the subdocks. If there is a click or double click in a period of x seconds (3 sec.) after a scroll we launch the appli. If the subdock has been untouched for quite a longtime a click brings the subdock. |

quite complicated, and not compatible with the fact that the click can be used to pop up the sub-dock |

Double click, alt + click, middle click, is it possible to use an easier way ? i would love to see this implemented. |

Thanks fabounet, your the bomb. BTW sorry about the "more accurately" comment. I was tired and didn't catch that you said "successively" . Successive: Following in uninterrupted order; consecutive. So you were completely accurate. |

That is so awesome! It makes maneuvering between the less used apps that are in the sub-docks SO MUCH easier and faster! Thank you!!! |

Yes, this simple feature is very useful. Thank you to you too for report the idea
An idea for a graphical improvement (inspired by ppmt's proposition) : when we scroll, why don't change the subdock's icon by the icon of the application on the top ? |

yep, good idea, actually I'd rather see an emblem of the current sub-icon, that would stay just few seconds.
it requires some updates on the emblems API though. |
