Hi,
I am running 2.1.3-3 on Ubuntu 9.10 using Gnome and Compiz. When I drag certain applications like xterm and OpenOffice to the dock, it chooses an icon that looks like a pad on a spring. I have been trying to replace the icon for OpenOffice by right clicking on the icon and selecting Modify this launcher and putting "/usr/share/icons/hicolor/48x48/apps/openofficeorg3-base.png" into "Images's name or path" and then clicking on Apply. Nothing happens on the dock but if I again go to Modify this launcher what I had entered into the "Image's name or path" is still their. Clearly, the selected icon exists in my file system. I am have the same difficulty replacing the xterm icon. I do not know what I am doing wrong and would appreciate any suggestions.
Thanks in Advance,
Don |

some typo error in the path ?
maybe you added a space at the beginning or the end of the path ?
try to set any image to see if it changes (like "nautilus" or a path to an image in your home) |

I have the same problem with some launchers dragged from a gnome panel to the dock. Some lose their icon and revert to the gnome-launcher (pad on a spring) icon which cannot then be changed, some keep their original icons which cannot then be changed and some others ( for me including OpenOffice) work just fine. If I recreate the launcher from the Cairo-Dock menu it will work just fine. Odd |

ok I might see what's wrong.
possibly a wrong .desktop file that contains 2 times the same key.
look in ~/.config/cairo-dock/current_theme/launchers, find the launchers that don't work, edit them, and I think you should be able to see if a wrong key is present. |

Thanks for the help. I got it working, that is, I was able to add both xterm and openoffice with icons of my choosing.
When I opened ~/.config/cairo-dock/current_theme/launchers/alacarte-made.desktop I found that there was one line
Icon=gnome-panel-launcher
and another
Icon[en_US]=/usr/share/icons/hicolor/48x48/apps/openofficeorg3-base.png
I edited the right hand side ot the first to be:
Icon=/usr/share/icons/hicolor/48x48/apps/openofficeorg3-base.png
I then exited cairo-dock, saved the desktop file and restarted cairo-dock; it now seems to be working. |

yes !
this line
Icon[en_US]=/usr/share/icons/hicolor/48x48/apps/openofficeorg3-base.png
is crazy, you never translate a path !
could you please check that the open-office's .desktop file located somewhere in /usr/share (use locate) is correct, or has also this bug ?
if it's correct, it may be the dock's theme that has this bug (probably because the launcher was made from an older version of ooo). |

I can't seem to find "openoffice.desktop" in /usr/share/. However, if I add a launcher for openoffice on my gnome desktop, I find the following OpenOffice.desktop file"
- !/usr/bin/env xdg-open
[Desktop Entry]
Encoding=UTF-8
Version=1.0
Type=Application
Terminal=false
Icon[en_US]=/usr/share/icons/hicolor/48x48/apps/openofficeorg3-startcenter.png
Name[en_US]=OpenOffice
Exec=soffice
Name=OpenOffice
Icon=/usr/share/icons/hicolor/48x48/apps/openofficeorg3-startcenter.png
(I have decided that I like this icon 'openofficeorg3-startcenter.png' better than openoffice3-base.png and now have that icon visible on cairo-dock.)
I notice that I have a similar line in desktop file for my xterm addition to cairo-dock; that is there is the line:
Icon[en_US]=/usr/share/icons/oxygen/48x48/apps/terminal.png
When I look at all the desktop icons I added manually there is a line starting "Icon[en_US]=".
I am confused but I got close to what I think I want. |

this is definitely a bug, maybe in the distrib.
Well for now I should try to find a workaround |
