I had this problem since the first version of CD I installed and it was never solved.
Whenever I use subdock with multiple icons/launchers, all icons got stuck in the first position 30% of time I am trying to trigger it. Here's an example:

I need to withdraw my mouse, try it 4-10 more times and then I might get lucky and the menu actually rolls down.
It does not matter which type of 'unfolder' I am using, it happens regardless. |

err, does it happen with any view (seems the view here is Parabolic) ?
what if you choose to not animate the sub-dock when they appear (in System) ? |

Seems to be more reliable, but it defeats half of the purpose of having CairoDock. |

I hope you use the dock not only because the sub-docks can unfold in an animation 
I don't see what can be wrong since I don't seem to have this problem.
did you try with another view ? and with the dock at the bottom of the screen ? |

Yes, it happens in all view modes I tried (I tried at least 3 or 4) and I doubt I am the only person with the problem.
The purpose of using CD is functionality and eyecandy.
Since I had to disable eyecandy, 50% of the purpose is gone |

did you check the animation parameters in "System" ? maybe some animation speed is null or something like that.
what if you load the defauft theme by renaming ~/.config/cairo-dock/current_theme and relaunching the dock, and then create a sub-dock (or activate any applet with a sub-dock, like weather) ? |
