I've been delaying writing this so that I could really think about Cairo-Dock, and get comfortable with it, before I answered. To be honest, I think the main thing that's missing is a tutorial or guide - it took an IRC chat with coz before I really began to understand how I could make my own theme. But once I understood, it seemed fine, and not too hard. I found the colour chooser didn't work too well though, I had to manually put in the colours by their RBG value. If the chooser/picker worked, this would be a lot easier.
The other thing that's annoying is setting up the icon theme. It would be good if there was an 'install' option as with GTK, or if Cairo-Dock was able to detect and choose from the installed GTK sets. Most of the time, people will want to use the same as the system set, in which case there is the 'overwrite x icons with launcher's one' option, but for some reason I found this led to a lot of '?'s on the dock...
One last feature I'd like to be able to see is the ability to download new themes other's make, as with Emerald etc.
Apart from that, I think the bar is great, and it's definitely headed in the right direction. It may be that any or all of those points I made are already there and I just haven't found them yet, or there's a very good reason not to have them, but I think, with a guide (have I missed one of those also?) it stands very well as it is.

indeed, a part of the wiki could be dedicated to the customization of a theme.
if Cairo-Dock was able to detect and choose from the installed GTK sets
you mean that CD proposes you a list of available icons set and let you choose one ? it does not for the moment, but you can specify a name of an icon set in the config panel, did you use it ?
the colour chooser should work, but this GTK widget doesn't pick the alpha channel, maybe it's what disturbed you.
I totally agree on the on-line themes.

I would glady write a tutorial but I think I still don't know enough - for example when I open an application I can choose between it opening with the default theme icon (not the one I chose) or the system icon, which still doesn't seem to be my system scheme. I can't work out how to completely change all the default icons for windows, not just launchers. If that makes any sense.
Also, I can't seem to get the systray applet working, but maybe that's just me. |

to overwrite an appli icon, you have to give Cairo-Dock an icon that has the same name as the appli's class.
put this icon somewhere CD can find it, like in the "launchers" folder.
be careful that for some appli, the class and the name are different (Firefox for exemple) |
