Hi everybody, you should know how much i like the dock...but i think should be usefull to change your development policy..

how and why

Simply i think you have to consider that:

Once you are happy of current development status i think that a CODE FREEZING is usefull, infact you could work ONLY on BUGFIX and you could release a REAL stable version..

why i'm saying that?

consider new version 1.5.5 for example,

you released version 1.5.5.1 (if i remeber well), after some bug report you released 1.5.5.2 about 2 day later, than 1.5.5.3, and now 1.5.5.4

all that versions are only bug-fixing... that could be "removed" with a "code freeze" and a previous bug-fix.

this is happened in previous versions too...

A better policy will help packagers... 4 releases in less than a week... looks strange... or not?

of course you could work to have a smallest source code, because in STABLE version you will release only stable (or quite stable) plugins

p.s.

please consider my topic like a constructive notice, i really like that dock and i want it to became the better available.

We are now following a strict road map (sure for my own) and updating it step by step after all commits, after including all the new features we'll ask to all beta-testers to do their jobs and after bug fixing we'll release.
Note that with all work done on the 1.5.6 (stabilization, optimized API, gnome 2.22 support, new applets) it's still in alpha2, don't worry, the 1.5.6 will be a good release.

We should translate 1.5.6 road map to English and stick it.

indeed Anubis 4 releases in a week is quite a nice frequency
but all were release-candidate, as Berlios is only here for testing the packages. Only when Mr Mav put the .deb on the repository the version is complete. It seems not clear for everybody
I guess I should give more meaningful names to these release.

Fab,

you're right about something : it's not clear for everybody.
I think we should totally forget about Berlios for packages. You can create a new thread in the forum and offer your RC packages (they can be located on our server) with an explicit name : cairo-dock_1.5.6_RC1_i386.deb
But I'd like to say it again, we have to quit Berlios, even for RC releases

/my 2 cents

except that everybody is not under Hardy 32bits
so we have to keep a way to provide .deb to people who can't use our repository.
I think removing the script and renaming the packages should be enough.

yep we just have to set a local deb/rpm/xxx file acces : ex packages.glx-dock.org with rc release/special release etc...
You don't want to move svn to keep the rev count, do you Fab ?

We can keep the rev count.
I've already tried but there was a local issue on the server and it didn't work
I have to try again

moving the SVN is not so urgent I think (after all it does work on Berlios, and CD is known to be there).
