Hi everybody,

Wow!! Cairo is wonderful---it's one of the best reasons to use Linux (and not to buy a Mac, ha ha).

Just one question: Is there a way to add the Games folder from my system menu to Cairo? I'm using Linux Mint 17 with the Cinnamon desktop.

Thanks, Ander

Hello ander and thank you for the question.

The best method is probably to use the Folders applet. Add the applet Folders and edit the configuration setting the path to your desired path.

An alternative is to use the Shortcuts applet. Add the applet Shortcuts and make the Games folder one of the bookmarks, places or favourites (depending on your file manager) and when you click on the shortcuts applet the Games folder should appear in the subdock.

You could also create a custom launcher but that would be akin to reinventing the wheel.

Oops, sorry---when I clicked the email-notification link to get here, I assumed it would also log me in. It didn't, though, and I ended up posting that last message anonymously (and it removed my replies, though I don't know why). Feel free to delete it, someone.

I tried that, but for some reason the Folders applet doesn't let you change its icon, and I'd like to use an icon that reflects the launcher's target. (Indeed, if you add several of these Folder launchers, how would you tell them apart if they all looked the same? I don't really get that.)

Anyway, I've realized that I can't really do this. I actually wanted to add a launcher that would show the Games folder as it appears in the Applications menu---a list of installed games with icons, not the actual folder containing the menu's shortcuts. (This would've been helpful for my wife and son, who aren't as computer-literate as I am.) Thanks anyway!

Hello,

Do you mean that the corresponding option doesn't work? -> right click on the applet / Folders / Edit / Icon / How to render the icon = Use an image ; Image filename = what you want.

I actually wanted to add a launcher that would show the Games folder as it appears in the Applications menu
Then it's maybe easier to create a new sub-dock and add all launchers that you want into it
  • Right click on the dock / Cairo-Dock / Add / Sub-dock
  • Drag and drop all launchers that you want into this sub-dock.

You're entirely right. Thanks for your help! This, ladies and gentlemen, is Linux.

Whoops, I forgot to log in again. Sorry.

Since the forum always requires you to log in—even when you've just clicked a "new reply" email link—maybe the links should point you to the logon page first? That's what forum links usually do (unless you don't have to log in separately).

This forum uses cookies and PHPSession if you select the "remember" option. But I think the biggest difference with other forums is that you can post a new message without being logged in and then maybe some people think that they are logged in.

(I just added a message when posting a new message as Guest user)
