ok, I have my dock back yay! The double character is fixed as well, however I have some new problems. Let me know if you want me to move these to a new thread.
The application menu doesn't draw correctly. Actually no menu does (see the black corners around the menu).
However when I click on the app menu icon, it loads the menu all the way to the bottom of my screen - and then when the mouse moves, it jumps up (see difference between screen1 and screen2)

Do you have any composite manager running? What's your desktop environment (Gnome?), your session that you're using (Gnome-Shell?) and your window manager (Mutter?)?
