The problem:
The audio icon in my top dock has disappeared. You know, the one that typically sits next to the battery and the network indicators if you use a laptop. I'm fairly certain it disappeared when I installed pavucontrol (Pulse audio volume control). I was using one of the standard audio icons that comes with cairo dock, perhaps the Ubuntu dark one. No matter what I switch the audio icon to, nothing appears. I can still access the volume slider by clicking on the part of the dock where the icon used to be. Has anyone encountered this and how might I go about fixing it?

I a running Cairo dock 3.2.1 on Peppermint 3, i386. I recently switched from openbox to xfwm4 (and I believe Peppermint uses LXDE as a desktop environment). This issue I am reporting happened prior to switching window managers.

so the Audio icon is invisible ?

did you try to switch the style from a "gauge" to an "icon" ? or an "icon with a progressbar" ?

and what if you run the dock without opengl (cairo-dock -c) ?

Whether or not I use opengl, the icon is not visible. However, when I switch it to icon with progress bar, it works (but neither gauge nor icon work). I actually like the progress bar, so I am happy with this. Thank you.

Hi, I'm running version 3.4.0 under Ubunto 14.10 and I have the same problem.
If i go into edit and select a different theme for the icon, it appears, but is not there again if system restarted
