Hi guys
I have cairo-dock installed on Peppermint4 which I really like. So far so good.
However, I'm having a problem with 2 buttons on the top dock.
The Messaging button says 'it requires the messaging service which is available on Ubuntu'. Can you advise how I install/turn this on, as it doesn't appear to be on with Peppermint4.
On the Logout button, I get lots of options (hibernate, suspend, switch user) but not an option to actually 'logout'!
Regarding what I'm running:
cairo 321
OpenGL
not sure about the other stuff (sorry, am new to Linux, as you can probably tell! )
Thank you if you can help.

Hello,
The Messaging button says 'it requires the messaging service which is available on Ubuntu'. Can you advise how I install/turn this on, as it doesn't appear to be on with Peppermint4. I guess you need to install indicator-messages package
On the Logout button, I get lots of options (hibernate, suspend, switch user) but not an option to actually 'logout' Strange! What's the output messages produced by this command launched from a terminal?
Can you try to do a middle click on the logout icon? |

Hi, thanks for the reply.
Have now installed that package. Do I have to reboot? It's currently saying 'the messaging service did not reply' (I'm using Thunderbird, was hoping it works with that?)
When I middle click on Logout, I get the same as when I left-click (i.e. program an automatic/lock screen/switch/suspend/hibernate/restart/shutdown) - but no actual 'logout'. I wonder if that means my mouse isn't setup correctly (very ordinary Dell optical one).
I tried using that echo command in a terminal window but there is no actual output I can see after typing it and pressing enter? |

PS Since rebooting I think the Message centre works now (the icon has changed with a link to T'bird) |

Have now installed that package. Do I have to reboot? It's currently saying 'the messaging service did not reply' Yes, you can relaunch the session or you can launch this command: /usr/lib/*-linux-gnu/indicator-messages/indicator-messages-service
When I middle click on Logout, I get the same as when I left-click Maybe this is not supported... (or you desktop environment doesn't respect specifications). Note that you can also specify a custom command in Logout config panel.
I wonder if that means my mouse isn't setup correctly (very ordinary Dell optical one). You can try the middle click on other applets/launchers (a middle click on an application close this window)
I tried using that echo command in a terminal window but there is no actual output I can see after typing it and pressing enter? If there is no output after having pressed "Enter" (Return) key, it means that your environment doesn't support this feature or doesn't respect specifications
Do you have this problem with the default environment (the default panel) |

Hmm. I've tried again, seems I *do* have some middle-mouse button functionality if I do it on a tab (like in a web browser). It will close the tab. I have only just noticed that. If I middle click anywhere else on the bar at the window top, it shows you the window hidden behind.
However, nothing happens when I middle-click on 'logout' in the cairo dock.
I'm finding the distro Peppermint 4 really good and it has been so polished and everything has worked, compared with so many other distros I tried (where I ran into different problems of one sort or another - incl with Linux Mint where I had lots of problems), so I would be surprised if they're 'not respecting the spec'. I guess I can ask them (the support team are very helpful).
I also use cairo on my netbook and laptop where I don't use a mouse anyway. So seems it would make sense if I can just remap the 'logout' command to the left click menu. Can you advise how to do that? Thank you for your help. |

Sorry, just to clarify as what I just said isn't quite right. Something does happen - I get the left menu options (as I mentioned higher up this thread). |

If you launch the dock with this command, you should be able to click on the 'Logout' menu entry. But when clicking on it, is it working? env SESSION_MANAGER=1 cairo-dock |

Thanks, yes, that works. How do I get it to work every time? Do I have to change an auto-start command?
Merci. |

Hmm. I said 'that works'. However, I notice that the docks now don't auto-minimize/disappear and I can't get full screen web browser, etc, as it hits the top/bottom of the now permanent dock... |

I have fiddled with options for top dock and it hides properly now.

Can you advise how to do this please? Thank you. |

if you have a file cairo-dock.desktop (or a similar name) in ~/.config/autostart, you can edit the line that starts with "Exec="
otherwise, it may depend on your distribution |
