According to the FAQ, "When a program is launched, if it has a launcher in the dock, the launcher icon will be marked with an icon to indicate that the corresponding application is running."

However, this is not the case. The only type of indicator is that of the currently selected window.

I am using version 2.1.3.10-4 from Debian stable. I will post my config if necessary.

It seems you used an old version of Cairo-dock. Can you install the 3.0.1 and try again ?

As this is a stable system, I do not like to install software outside the official Debian repos. However, if this is a known bug, or if the feature was added later, I will give it a try.

It's just that this version has been released more than 2 years ago (hard to say that it's a known bug) and these old Debian packages are not really good...

Don't hesitate to test the latest stable version of Cairo-Dock! It's maybe interesting to backup your config files (e.g. if you want to revert back to the previous version even if I think it's not a good idea )
cp -R ~/.config/cairo-dock/ ~/.config/cairo-dock.bak
(note that it can be interesting to use the new default theme: replace cp -R by mv or use the themes manager.

After messing with my settings, I discovered that the problem was being caused by the value for "height of the reflection". If it is too low, the indicator will not be visible on the screen.

It would be nice if it were possible to determine where the indicator is drawn in relation to the icon.

normally, the indicator should be visible whatever this value is.
else, it's a bug
but did you test that with the current stable release ? because chances are that this has already been corrected
