Windows manager : xcompmgr
cairo-dock version stable 3.0
cairo-dock launched with option -c
Hi i have installed cairo-dock for my parents and i am noticing a big bounce of the all dock when an icon is disappearing from the dock.
I have notice this with the plan 3d, default panel the curve view.
The new panel view does not have this problem
Other views have not been tested.
I have the same problem on my machine but with less impact as my dock is very small.
My machine lubutu 11.10, compiz, cairo-dock -o option.

Yes, I think we have to change something for that... When we add/remove an icon, the dock's window is resized and moved. I think we don't have this bug only with Compiz and Nvidia drivers. For me, the only solution is to not resize the window but ... @fabounet?  |

Do you know why the panel view is not having this problem ?
It had a very smooth animation when icons were leaving the dock |

Do you know why the panel view is not having this problem ? Simply because for this view, Cairo-Dock doesn't resize or move its window 
(panel view's window takes the screen width) |

I think it would be great if this could be fixed by using the good size of the screen for the compositing window ( half the screen like awn). It is a real shame as this does not look appealing. Which as an immediate impact on new users.
I remember having this discussion a long time ago about the same issue.
I also had a problem with the top of the label being cut off because the size of the dock (without the compositing )is too small for the labels to be fully shown. |

or is it the top of the label that is cut of a few pixels ? |

Me it's the top of the label are cut off via a few pixel. But what it s very annoying it's the "When we add/remove an icon, the dock's window is resized and moved."
I do not see this behaviour when we add a icon so why do i see one when we remove it. |

Ok due to upgrade to 12.04 i have just seen that emerald is not working anymore so no compiz for me
I am going to push for fabounet to solve the few problem due to the use of the xcompmgr. Maybe we should include it by default. It's only one package. |

Ok lets recapitulate the three bugs while using xcompmgr
1...Dialog boxes appear outside the screen.
2...Due to the size of the compositing window some labels seems cut.
3...When an icon disappear the dock jump
It 's difficult to show an example. You could try it at home and see what i am talking about. Xcompmgr is only one package to download.
I honestly think that bug 2 and 3 could be fix at the same time if the window compositing was taking the entire width of the screen and about 2/3 of the screen height because the new panel view does not have this problem.
I remember seeing this bug with metacity and i think it appears with compiz but you need an expert eye to notice the change |
