I apologize if this has been asked before.

I have been using AWN as my dock on Ubuntu for years. However, I have been testing the 12.04 *buntu releases and have been trying Cairo. In general, I think its a superior solution except for one minor annoyance.

On the dock I use the Application Menu icon. When I mouse over it and select either System Tools or Preferences, it opens another window. But, instead of being fully open for all entries, it has an up/down arrow to move up the list. Personally, I don't like this behavior and would like to see it fully open like it is in AWN and I believe the G2Kversion? Is this configurable or is that the way its going to be?

Thanks for all your great work.

Hi,
it's maybe because the menu is built when you click on it the first time
I don't remember exactly, but I'll check that point

Guest, Friday 27 July 2012 à 17:45

I'm having the same problem.
This is so close to perfect!

I'm running Xubuntu 12.04 (w/ xfce 4.10) on an MSI Wind U100 netbook.

@Guest: with which version of the dock? (downloaded from our ppa/repository?)
Is it better after having launched these commands?
gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.interface menus-have-icons true
gconftool-2 --set /desktop/gnome/interface/menus_have_icons --type bool true

This have ben fixed in the 3.0.2 !

Yes, maybe. I'll contact Ubuntu devs

Sorry, I was on vacation and forgot all about my menu woes.

I'm running version 3.0.0 and installed via apt-get. Should I try to uninstall, add a PPA and install that way?

Also, the commands above seem related to the lack of icons in my screenshot. I'm not really concerned about the icons at this point; I can turn them on and off just fine. My screenshot shows them turned off - but that was just an effort on my part to get the menu to stop opening with scroll bars on the top and bottom.

Regards,
CH

Yes, you can simply add our repository/ppa and update your system, e.g. with these commands
sudo -v
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:cairo-dock-team/ppa
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

My menu doesn't have the "up/down arrow" problem... instead all Cairo menus (the Application menu, or the right click menu to configure Cairo, or even the menu you get when you click on the network manager icon) have much more extra space per line item than the menus I get normally in Xubuntu (e.g. when I right click on the desktop). Is this a bug or is there some setting that controls this?

I guess it's not a bug. This is what you should have:

maybe because we had to force the size of entries to the size of the icon (because GTK3 doesn't refresh menus correctly )
so if you don't display icons, entries might look higher than they usually do.

@Matttbe any news for the LTS by the way ?

ok, no problem
actually, pushing the 3.1 in the 12.10 is maybe more important now, if you have the time (otherwise I can do it this WE if you tell me the steps )

I'm going to push the 3.1 (beta) tomorrow or this WE but about the version in Ubuntu 12.04 LTS, it seems we have to open a new bug report to say why we want to upload the new bug-fix version, test-case, log about the compilation and the installation, etc. => https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates#Procedure

(This version is available in our 'stable' ppa: https://launchpad.net/~cairo-dock-team/+archive/ppa/+packages)

ok, we'll do that, I can provide the bug-fix and test-case or anything needed

Guest, Sunday 09 September 2012 à 08:51

Can I perhaps add something to this?

My Applications Menu does not follow the background colour like the rest of Ubuntu. In the screenshots of this post, ppl's background is tha t kind of dark brown, but my Cairo-Dock menu backgrounds are white. Am I missing where to change that? This is also on 12.04.1 TLS with CairoDock installed from the Ubuntu repository.

Is it maybe due to this bug? => https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/light-themes/+bug/968133

Is it better with this package? https://launchpad.net/~matttbe/+archive/ppa/+files/light-themes_0.1.9.2-0ubuntu3%7Eprecise_all.deb

Guest, Monday 10 September 2012 à 00:22

Thanks Matt -that solved it. Thanks a lot!
