Here is my problem.

1) open Evolution mail & double click on the mail which I want to read.
2) The mail window which was double clicked doesn't come on foreground but instead it will stay behind in the background.
3) after this I have to do (alt+tab) to bring the window which I opened to foreground.

I would like the new window was I opened to step 1, to come on the foreground so that I can read it immediately.

Cairo-Dock version :- 2.3.0~2 ( Cairo-Dock with no GLS )

Is there any settings for this.? I am sure there would be but somehow I tried enough but could not find it out.

Thanks in advance
Sharath

Hello,

Thank for this bug report but are you sure that it's a bug in Cairo-Dock??? Because if I follow your 3 steps, I don't use the dock...

I guess it's maybe a bug in your WM (Compiz, Metacity, KWin, etc.) (or a problem with the configuration of it) or maybe in Evolution but I don't have this bug with Evolution 3.0.2 and Compiz 0.9.4

I think I didnt explain my problem correctly.

Let me try again, This time I shall take another example

1) Firefox is the active window & it is maximized
2) I have a keyboard shortcut to open a terminal
3) I open a new terminal using keyboard shortcut
4) the new terminal window which was opened is not the active window & behind the firefox window.

I expect at Step 4, the newly opened window to be active window & over firefox window.

In General, when ever I open a new window of any application, [ link terminal or xterm or try to read a single mail by double clicking in evolution main window ] The newly opened window is not active window. I expect the newly opened window to be active window.

Hope my problem is clear now.

Yes it's clear but it's not due to Cairo-Dock and it's not the aim of Cairo-Dock to manage your windows (it's the aim of a Window Manager (WM)).

If you reproduce these steps without Cairo-Dock, do you have the same result? If yes, this is a bug of your WM (if you're on Gnome, try that with metacity, mutter, compiz, or another => metacity --replace, compiz --replace)

yes, If I replace the Cairo-Dock. The result is as I expect, i.e the newly created window is the active window. It happens only when I enable the Cairo-Dock.

If you still think it is not Cairo-Dock's bug you can reject this.

I am not saying it is a bug, it might be just some simple setting which I might have missed while configuring.

However I can conform that this is indeed Cairo-Dock bug.

Reproduction Setup:- OS :- 1) Ubuntu 2)Gnome Env 3) metacity WM.
Cairo-Dock:- 1) enable "Notification-area old"
2) set the visibility of this applet to anything apart from "keep on widget layer"
3) uncheck "is detached from main dock"

Reproduction Steps:- 1) Open any new window
2) the newly opened window would be pushed to background, where as it must have been in the foreground.

If any one from Cairo dev team wants more logs from my setup let me know, I shall provide them if it helps fix the bug.

@Matttbe,

Thanks for trying to help me.

could you please try with this command:
cairo-dock -d test

it will start the dock in a new folder (~/test), so the default theme will be loaded.

I had the same problem, and solved it by going to gnome-tweak-tool -> windows and unchecking "automatically raise windows"
