This is a more general Subject for my adventures using Cairo in the latest version (still in alpha) of Ubuntu.

Since Cairo does everything the new Unity (replaces Gnome somewhat) does and more, I'm logging on with the Classic (Gnome) desktop, deleting the bottom bar, and setting the above bar to autohide. That will make Cairo my sole control.

Unfortunately, the Log Out applet does not offer logging out as an option, and this is needed often when tweaking the interface (a complete reboot is not necessary). The window that comes up offers only shut down, restart, suspend, and hibernate.

The Compiz applet items don't seem to do anything, except for the Configure item, which does bring up CompizConfig.

The Quick Browser and systray applets do not show up, even though checked.

I invite you to read the applet's handook
-> log-out: middle-click or menu
-> systray is detached by default, so it's somewhere on your desktop (if it's empty, it's maybe hard to find)
compiz-icon: doesn't it switch from metacity to compiz ?

About Quick Browser, I have no problem just like Shortcut or Application Menu
Is it not soved after you latest upgrade? e.g. with this command
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

Hey, good idea!

-> log-out: middle-click or menu

Yep, that does it!

-> systray is detached by default, so it's somewhere on your desktop (if it's empty, it's maybe hard to find)

Yes, it makes all the difference after I add a couple of tray programs to it!

Well, I already have Compiz running. The Compiz applet pops up a subdock with Configure Compiz, Emerald Manager, Reload WM, Exposition, and Widget Layer. Only the first one seems to work. The others rotate, and something seems to be happening, but nothing shows up. Well, I haven't tried Reload WM, because Natty is still funky.

I'm updating a couple of times daily with Synaptic in Natty, since things are changing so fast.

OK, I watched while I checked and unchecked Quick Browser in the config. There is an applet showing up, but it doesn't look like the icon in the config, and it brings up just the home folder. Maybe that's all it's supposed to do. I was thinking it might be something where you could move quickly with the mouse through the filesystem. I think I was recalling the neat way that used to work in IceWM.

I didn't, but now I do. I logged off and on, but still only CompizConfig does anything.

I just discovered the Synaptic install of Cairo enabled the non-OpenGL version. I changed it, and the animations are a lot nicer.
