Don't forget to read our very complete Wiki (www.glx-dock.org/ww_page.php) !
But don't be shy to post all your questions or bugs here !

However before you post a message on the forum and to speed up things, don't forget to include as much informations as you can (if it's posible ):
    • The version of Cairo-Dock ('cairo-dock -v' in a terminal). 2.1.3-9
    • Your GNU/Linux distribution (Debian, Ubuntu, Fedora, etc.). Fedora 12 Constantine
    • Or you using OpenGL or not. Believe I am, not sure.
    • Your Window manager (Compiz, Metacity, Kwin, Openbox, etc.). Probably Compiz
    • Your Desktop Environment (Gnome, KDE, XFCE, etc.). Gnome 2.28.2
    • How you got the bug and therefore the answer to the question 'How can the bug be reproduced'. See Message
    • If it's a crash, you can launch Cairo-Dock from a terminal ('cairo-dock') and post the output. Doesn't crash just produces a background I do not want.
    • Any other details you think could be useful .

Hi.
I have been using Cairo-Dock for over a year and have found the experience more than satisfactory. The reason I am posting here today is that a phenomenon, I have not previously experienced, has occurred and I was hoping that someone may be able to help me.
I have been struggling to install Skype (version skype.i586 2.1.0.81-FC10 latest available) on my Fedora 12 (Constantine) Linux 2.6.32.12-115.fc12.x86_64 using Gnome 2.28.2 as my Desktop. I was, only recently, able to get skype going and in accomplishing that I unfortunately created a problem with the Cairo Docking app.
A black frame appears around, and twice as large as the Dock itself, when I reboot the computer. I tried to look for settings to change but was unable to see anything that might help, but could not.
The two items that were set were, as user, $env LD_PRELOAD=$LD_PRELOAD:/usr/lib/libv4l/v4l1compat.so skype and $export XLIB_SKIP_ARGB_VISUALS=1 ($ showing Bash Shell not used in actual invocation).
My libv4l is version 0.6.4-1 and is an x86_64 library. I have a Screenshot of the exact problem but was unable to attach it. I can send it to anyone if necessary.
Thank you, in advance, for any help you might be able to provide. Sincerely
Robert

Hello Robert,

As you can see on our wiki, this problem is due to a bug in Qt4 (OpenGL librairies) which is already not fixed...
But there is a few workarounds, e.g.:
  • Launch Cairo-Dock without OpenGL (not so good )
  • Launch Skype with XLIB_SKIP_ARGB_VISUALS=1

This last workaround is for me the best. You just have to launch Skype with this new environment variable BUT ONLY Skype
Don't add this line into your .xsessionrc, .bashrc or something else because XLIB_SKIP_ARGB_VISUALS means no ARGB = no alpha = no transparency

Hello matttbe
OK. I am sorry I did not pick up on the Qt4 which you say is not fixed at this time. I can try the Cairo-Dock without OpenGL. How do I invoke Skype, and only skype, with the XLIB_SKIP_ARGB_VISUALS=1 specifically. I put it in my entire environment by putting it into .bashrc (my bad). I have not invoked anything specifically for Skype. Can you provide exact syntax?
And thanks again...
Robert

Simply launch Skype with
XLIB_SKIP_ARGB_VISUALS=1 && skype
(or skype.real or skype-wrapper it depends of the name of the binary on Fedora )
Or edit the launcher with something like:
sh -c "export XLIB_SKIP_ARGB_VISUALS=1 && skype-wrapper"
