So I recently completely purged my CD by apt-get purge all of it, then deleting the ~/.config/cairo-dock/ directory. I did this because I finally convinced the wife to go to CD (despite our quarrel about the keep below visibility option I still think CD ROCKS vs. anything else available ; in other words, I still love y'all!!!) and some of her options/applets seemed to work better than mine. I installed hers via the stable release ppa so it used the old default config. I reinstalled mine via the weekly ppa, so with the new default config. I just about freaked out because I got a flash of the dock and it DISAPPEARED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I said WTF then realized what happened. My EXPERIENCE with CD (especially due to our quarrel about visibility options) made me realize that the dock had simply hidden because my terminal was in the docks "space". The default config is 99.999% of the time is targeted to NEW USERS who has no experience with a hiding dock. I would imagine that they would immediately freak and remove an application that did nothing...

I suggest that you remove any auto-hide configurations on the default configuration. I know how much you like the feature fabounet, but this is not something for a new user to experience. Maybe notation that would point to a URL that would lead to a page that explains the different visibility options , something like that, but seeing nothing when using a new application is concerning to say the least...

Hello,
I agree with you but I think there are some solutions if we want to enable this visibility option by default: the first thing that I think it's to have a dialog which informs the user that it's a new mode but only one time (e.g. with a new line in the .conf file => if XXX : show the dialog and XXX=0)

ok to change the greeting dialog.
but you know, I don't think people are that stupid to not even try to figure out how this works. I will bet no that anyway

by the way, I've added back the "keep below" option I've did it because it won't be the default, so I'm sure users will use it knowing what they do.
I don't want it to be the default (since many people stay with the default settings), and other visibility options are too much intrusive to be the default too.
so we don't have much choice. but it's easily changeable through the simple config panel.

You brought back keep below!!! AWESOME, but agreed that it shouldn't be default.

Would it be possible to have a completely different dialog for that. Say as soon as the dock hides for the first time it pops up with a message that would say that the dock had hidden, and give the simple instructions on how to unhide it. That way no confusion .
