I would to like to suggest some options/improvements for the terminal applet:
- option to add extra parameters when terminal starts, for example to automatically run a command when starting it
- option to really close it and also minimize it into the dock as a normal terminal using the "normal" signs _ and x on the top right border
- option to remove the big ugly TAB button or disable the tab option at all.
- when terminal is opened from dock fix the position on the desktop, now the terminal "moves" when it is open when mouse is moved over the dock is itself, a fixed position when opened would be nice. Or only move the pointer/connection graphics from terminal to the dock, so only the terminal window itself is fixed.
Hope some or all of these "improvements" can be implemented in a future update.
Best regards,

automatically run a command when starting it
shouldn't this be in ~/.bash_rc ?

actually you can hide when it's inside a dialog by clicking on the top border of the dialog
but you're talking about the desklet mode right ? there is a shortcut for that, isn't it more convenient ?
It won't appear in the taskbar anyway (this would be non-sense, it's not a gnome-terminal, it's more something like Tilda. IMHO the best way to use it is with a shortcut to trigger it)
- option to remove the big ugly TAB button or disable the tab option at all.
hmmm, is a single window terminal still useful ? I personnally couldn't use it without tabs.
what's the problem about tabs ? too big ?

I agree something should be done. |

No, I want only to run a command when I use that specific terminal, not in all terminals i open.
I wish to use the terminal for a static hasher, to create hash file, click icon terminal starts, hash command is run etc.
I now do this using a gnome-terminal, but I need a static terminal, tilda looks ok but does not work good enough, it has still a lot of grapihcs problems by hide and show.

Yep way to big |

That is what I would like in the SSH applet....
I which to run 1 specific program in a terminal for a long time, in my case a hasher which I have to use the whole day to crypt or decrypt passwords. I which the terminal to be in 1 specific place. As you mentioned tilda (or yakuake) does what I want, but both programs have major display problems so I stopped using them.
The SSH applet seemed to be a perfect alternative, it does exactly what I want, the only thing it still needs is a option to give a command when it is first opened so it runs a specific command.
Using a starter is not a option for me, a normal terminal is opened and not fixed or attached to the dock...
I can live with the current SSH applet, I now only have to start the application I wish to use by hand when I first open the applet. This is not a big deal but it would be nice if an extra option could be added to run a command on startup of the applet. |

It sounds like a very particular use.
maybe you can directly hack into the applet and add this feature, it doesn't sound too complicated |

I know it is a big plug but I have written a program in python that could do what you ask for
RemShell
you could use it as a launcher |
