Summary: if cairo-dock wants to compete with docky + awn, it has to ship with LESS features ENABLED BY DEFAULT( A.K.A. make only the basic features default!)
I used AWN before , then switch to docky, now Cairo dock.
Undeniably cairo-dock is so much more customizable / powerful than the other two.
However, the ONE MAJOR REASON that turned me off the first time i installed it half a year ago is because the settings were too complicated.
Now it seems like the latest version has improved a lot with the simplified mode of the configuration menu.
Nevertheless, it took me half an hour to turn off all the firework effects, rotating icon effects, bouncing etc. etc. + more time to figure out how to group windows of the same applications.
Average users don't need a thousand effects - they just want something that's quick, simple and works out of the box
Suggestion 1) just ship icon zooming with mouse over (no other icon effects they should be enabled by user if they want to not the other way round)
Suggestion 2) ship with "group windows of same application in a sub-bar" as the default setting - most ppl give up cairo dock if they can't figure out this can be enabled
Thanks for listening + making cairo dock so great - |

did you really took that long to configure these settings through the simple config panel ??
all the options you mention are in the first page of the simple config panel, so where is the difficulty ?
Note : I'm just trying to figure out where is the problem; I'm not in a position to see it clearly, since for me it's obvious
Thanks for your advice. |

Thank you for your advice!
Cairo-Dock has so many options and it's not easy to know which one are enabled by default, etc.
Just to know, what's your CD version? |
