Salut,
I am working on this dock and it is taken after Maththias's text based theme.
I like that theme and wanted to try it with backgrounds.
If any of you would test and give feedback I would appareciate it.
The BIG problem for me,, is creating a clock.... I dont know how to actually create the clock images correctly at least with this theme.
Any help with that problem would also be appreicated

Hey,
One thing is sure : it's different that your other themes .
But for this one, I'm not a fan for two reasons :
- The color (but I'm sure that some/many people like it )
- The font for two reasons too :
- I doesn't like this kind of font (Too much like Times New Roman, MS, etc. )
- It's too "detailed" => CD minimises icons... so they seems "blurred". => Or maybe when there are svg files in the dock, they can be loaded twice : one with the minimum size and one with the big size. When the "mouse" is in the dock, CD loads the big sizes (if it's not to slow )
But I'm sure this theme will be appreciated ! |

I basically agree on font and color
what if, inside of a color, you use a square as a background image for the icons ?
then it would be easy to change the color.
for clock, all the images must be square of he same size, and the needles must be drawn horizontally, from the left top corner.
maybe you can try your clock in cairo mode, because the opengl drawing needs an additionnal (though optional) conf file. |

Nice , thanks !
did you try the idea of using a background image for icons (a colored square), and just the text for icons ? |

salut,
thanks matttbe... I should have concentrated on fonts before doing this since there are no icons pics and the font is the main focus... I may try another font but I sort of like this one as well
also here is the black ones' clock and gauge if I didnt include them

Salut,
Ok, I just found out that the font used in this theme is NOT going to work on everyone's system unless they have that font installed already...so I need to redo all of the icons and embed the font into the icons so it doesn't need to be installed.
matttbe..this may be why the first comment about the bad font.... the font I had used was an outlined font not a solid filled one...
I don't think that showed up on your end.
So I have to redo all of these for them to work ,,, but I have a few people to test it first and then I will re-upload the themes again.
Apologies to you ... I should have realized this before uploading it for testing

why do you want to redo the icons ?
once they are images, the font is no more used.
the only font you have to care is the labels and dialogues one, and you can safely choose the default system font
Very nice theme by the way, I like the 2nd very much !
PS : the tarball http://dl.dropbox.com/u/132551/My_cairo-dock_themes/btpanelblack%20.tar.gz does not work (maybe the space in the name ?) |

Maybe you can force the location of your font by editing the svg files ? |

ah, silly me, I didn't realize it's SVG images
well you could png-ize them to avoid any problem.
128x128 is enough. It may eat some unnecessary memory though, maybe 96x96 is enough for this kind of images. |

Salut guys,
Ok here is the edited theme...and if all went well...the font is now embedded into each icon...I will have someone test this who does not have that font installed;;;
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/132551/My_cairo-dock_themes/BTpanel/BTpanel-black.tar.gz
If this works the way I believe it will... I will have to edit the other themes based on this design the same way I do apologize again... I should have realized this when dealing with svg format and fonts
