Hi everyone,

first thanks a lot for the work, cairo-dock is really great! Especially on those 16:9 screens where vertical space is rare...

But somehow I encountered a lot of issues recently. With 2.1 I could finally use opengl, but then things started to get broken... Can not really recall when it started and what caused it, mabye gnome 2.28, but I had to redo my whole theme...

The main issue persisting is that the dock disappears regularly. It is set to auto-hide and works after start for some time, then it does not appear again. I could not figure out what situation is causing this.

What I tried:

  • Running with either/combination of -t, -a, -i, -c, -o makes no differences
  • Uninstall, delete folder in .config, reinstall, start theme from scratch
  • Disabling all kinds of applets
  • added class=Cairo-Dock under Above in compiz Window rules
  • minimize all windows, clicking on desktop or other programs
  • cursing

Symptoms

  • its not coming up when moving the mouse to screen edge, but the process is still alive
  • when right-clicking where the dock should be, nothing happens - e.g. on an empty desktop, the normal gnome submenu should pop up ("something" is there...)
(before I removed the .conf/folder and reinstalled: the main dock was not visible, but when hovering over a subdock its contents appeared, and right-click brought up
cairo-dock submenu)
  • sometimes it does come up, but has no animations and is rather small, clicking launchers/apps works
  • the settings dialog frequently crashes
  • there are lots of (rather cryptic to me) error messages in the terminal, stuff like "it begins to rise in strength" (a google translation):

Right after start
gtk_widget_get_gl_context: assertion `GTK_IS_WIDGET (widget)' failed
OpenGL version: 2.1 Mesa 7.5.1
OpenGL vendor: Tungsten Graphics, Inc
OpenGL renderer: Mesa DRI Mobile Intel® GM45 Express Chipset GEM 20090712 2009Q2 RC3
if your drivers are crappy, we'll know it immediately ... ok, they seem fine enough.

gtk_widget_set: assertion `GTK_IS_WIDGET (widget)' failed
on emule une re-rentree (pDock->iMagnitudeIndex:0)
fin de boucle bloquante
cairo_dock_refresh_launcher_gui ()

However, there seems to be no connection between this messages and the point where it goes into full-hide. Sometimes there is no more than the output at start.

Running arch 2.6.31, cairo-dock 2.1.0, compiz 0.8.4, gnome 2.28.1 and xf86-video-intel 2.9.0.1.

Any input on how to fix this would be greatly appreciated!

Hello gunthers,

Firstly it seems that your drivers works but not perfectly. There are some bugs due to its lack of pbuffer support.

before I removed the .conf/folder and reinstalled: the main dock was not visible, but when hovering over a subdock its contents appeared, and right-click brought up cairo-dock submenu
You have this bug with and without OpenGL?

the settings dialog frequently crashes
Mmm, strange...
A new stable release will be available tomorrow but if you are on Debian or Ubuntu can you test our ppa Weekly ?
Thanks

Yes, this is the same without OpenGL.
Building 356-1 from bzr atm, will report back if this changes something.

Hello mattbe!

OK, running core rev 356 and plugin rev 1374 from bazaar now.
It feels a lot smoother than 2.1.0 and did not yet disappear. Most plugins are missing, however.

All in all, it looks like 2.1.1 may solve the problems I had [knocks on wood]. I'll wait for tomorrows stable release and follow up how it fares.

Merci!

Most plugins are missing, however.
I think that you don't do the complete commands => From BZR
cd cairo-dock-core
autoreconf -isvf && ./configure --prefix=/usr
make -j $(grep -c ^processor /proc/cpuinfo) ## if you have an error, see if you have install all dependences and/or post a new thread on our forum
# make install ## on root mode
cd ../cairo-dock-plug-ins/
autoreconf -isvf && ./configure --prefix=/usr
make -j $(grep -c ^processor /proc/cpuinfo)
# make install ## as root and if you had no errors

My Bad - let yaourt do all the dirty work and overlooked that the PKGBUILD had most plugins blacklisted by default. Some failed, but I did not use them before anyway.

Perfect! There are some minor annoyance left (e.g., Radium Clock and default Battery theme are missing), but I better make a new post for this.

Thanks again!

I had the same problem to make deb packages... I'd to skip the dh_auto_test.

Is it a warning or an error? Use this flag for the configure.ac : --disable-xfce-integration
If you want this plug-in, you need this package : libthunar-vfs-1-dev

==> The following plug-ins failed to build:
==> --> stacks
Yes, this plug-in is (temporarily) abandoned

They are just warnings, everything else installed fine and works great.
Mail was missing libetpan and works now too. I hope po and template are not too important.

The dock does not disappear with 2.1.1 anymore, marking as solved.

Matttbe, is libetpan listed in the dependencies of the deb package ?
