I am getting very high CPU usage from Cairo-dock in OPEN GL model on my system using an Nvidia FX 5700 ultra, latest Nvidia Drivers and Ubuntu Jaunty Jackalope. It looks perfect, just can't use it due to over 80% cpu usage when scrolling through the icons...

also I have compiz working great

Strange

Is it 'cairo-dock' process that take an high cpu usage ?

Which version of Cairo-Dock do you use ? Can you test with another theme ? Which drivers do you use ? With this card I advise you to use the '173.14.20'

is Nvidia FX 5700 the same as a GeForce5 ?
I know the dock works correctly on GeForce5.
anyway, that's 99% sure a driver problem.

I am using nVidia driver version 173.14.20.

The version of Cairo-dock I'm using is 2.1.0 alpha, but I "upgraded" to that version from 2.0.7 because I was having high CPU usage with that one also.

And yes, from what I understand the Geforce FX series is the same as the 5 series. "FX" was their name rather than "5", from what I can recall.

I get this result with any theme I try, I believe I have tried every theme. And yes it is the "cairo-dock" process using up the CPU.

did you try with indirect rendering (-i option) ?

Ok for some reason indirect rendering works MUCH better!:

25977 petermg 20 0 99684 41m 15m S 10.3 5.6 0:07.11 cairo-dock

Wonder why that is???

You know, another thing that I think is ironic, is that I have an HP Pavilion laptop with ATI onboard video, and cairo-dock is WICKED FAST, sadly however I get the dreaded black box around the dock, LOL. But the effects are fast and hardly uses any cpu But due to the black box of the crappy ATI-ness, I don't use it, I use AWN on that laptop.

weird, now some other themes are very slow, even though it's not using high CPU, the effects for the default theme for example is very slow.. weird.

You should

... It's allways good to see the "opponent" features

And you could have it and never use it !

AWN has a pandora radio applet.. VERY NICE!! I am primarily using AWN. But I hope things go even better for me in the future with Cairo-dock.

Seriously though, the pandora radio applet rocks!
