Hello community!
I'm a new Cairo-Dock user, just switched from AWN today. I have to admit that Cairo-Dock offers much more customization possibilities than AWN. I could configure everything pretty nice suiting to my needs except one thing. In AWN the default launcher icons are taken from the global icon theme (in my case the Gnome icon theme). I would like Cairo-Dock to use those standard icons, too. Ideally there would be an option like "Use standard icon theme" (maybe it already exists and I just haven't found it?) but now I've at least found the workaround to add the icon theme directory into the directory list in Cairo. The problem is that each icon theme directory has many subdirectories where all the icons are and strangely Cairo seems not to search these subdirectories for icons. So I had to add several subdirectories until all the launchers' icons were replaced. Not a good solution especially if you change the icon themes frequently. Could you make Cairo search all the subdirectories of the directories entered in the directory list?
Thanks,

No, that's not the point that I meant. This is already activated and works perfectly (one of the things that I missed in AWN). What I mean is using the Gnome theme's icons (instead of the Cairo-Dock theme's icons) for both launchers and applis (as they are called in the settings dialogue). |

Remove all icons in ~/.config/cairo-dock/current-theme/icons
Or open de config panel, go to the Icons menu and remove _LocalTheme_
Or in this Icons menu, add the localisation of your theme at the first place => for example : /usr/share/icons/ubuntu-sunrise/scalable/apps/
Cairo-Dock is fully customizable
EDIT : Maybe you have to change the icons of applets manually. |

In fact, that's what I've done and now my directory list looks like this:
But I want to be able to enter just ~/.icons/[some theme name] and Cairo should find the appropriate icons in there.
edit: But removing the _LocalTheme_ dir makes the trick! Thanks for the help, the thread can be closed (or moved into the "Problems" section). |

Hmm, you're right. Should have read the tooltip more carefully. |

yes, but as most people don't, I'm wondering if this option is too "difficult"
what do you think personnaly ? |

Well, as you see without reading the tooltip it is impossible to think of it. It would surely be easier to have a switch like "Use current icon theme" but then you would have the same function doubled and maybe it would interfere with the icon directory list... maybe if such a switch would disable/gray out the directory list so you can't edit it while it is active... |
