I spoke with coz via irc about this, I'm just posting the conversation from there, its the best way I can put the idea...
<gaintsura> is it possible to run multiple instances of widgets and have them each configured for different positions??
<coz_> gaintsura, it is possible to run multiple docks if that is what you mean or even mulitple applets
gaintsura, which version of the dock do you have cairo-dock --versioni
<coz_> sorry cairo-dock --version
<gaintsura> 2.0.0-beta0
<coz_> gaintsura, then if you mean applets yes you should be able to run multiple instances...which were you thinking about?
<gaintsura> rhythmbox, menu clock
maybe even compiz and the systray as well
<coz_> gaintsura, ok if y9u right click one of them , say the clock, there should be the choice of "Launch another instance of this applet"
<coz_> then configure that applet the way you want
not all applets like cpusage and a few others have this option though
<gaintsura> ah cool, let me check that.. and then I remove the sticky right?
<coz_> yeah try that
<coz_> gaintsura, how did you install this?
<gaintsura> hmm, I'm not seeing the sticky or show on all desktops anywhere..
<coz_> let me check here
<gaintsura> I did it manually via git like 2+ months ago or so...
someone in here helped me out
am looking at the clock applet, don't see a sticky/unsticky
maybe have to forcefully do it via compiz
<coz_> gaintsura, ok under the clock , after removing it to the desktop and looking under the config of that applet i dont see stikcy but do see lock positon etc
<gaintsura> yeah same here
<coz_> although it seems to be on all viewports in compiz fusion
mm maybe this could be posted as a feature request on the forums?
a "sticky" option or even " put on a certain viewport?
<gaintsura> oh I like specific viewport placement, that could easily be fixed..
<coz_> gaintsura, yeah , right now it seems to be sticky to all viewports
<gaintsura> give the option to name the applet being created.. that way when you're in compiz and you do 'window name' = ? windowname would be easily remembered
would work in conjunction with place window/window rules if the window tags could be adjusted better
<coz_> gaintsura, there you go,,, I think this would be a real good feature request post on the forum.. are you already registered there? |

ok, so bacically you need that the applet sets a title on its window so that Compiz can find it ?
for the moment all the desklets have the class "cairo-dock" and the title "cairo-dock-desklet" (something like that)
if say the clock applet has the title "clock", would it be enough ? |

I think something like "cairo-dock-desklet-clock-1" (and "cairo-dock-desklet-clock-2" for a second instance, etc...) should be better ... |

I agree with nochka85.. each applet/desklet should have its own window title/window name.
reason 1) Running multiple instances of applets/desklets
reason 2) I don't ALWAYS want all of my applets/desklets transparent or locked down by one compiz window rule.
Thanks in advance! |
