Hi!

I tried to use cairo-dock with OpenGL support. CPU load with OpenGL is low, which is great but cairo-dock is displayed wrong. It appears as if in every frame of the animation, the icons are drawn on then previous frame, and so on. Im built the latest pixman, cairo, glitz libraries as demanded in the wiki. Im using the proprietary nvidia driver ( And an 8800GTS graphics card ). Any ideas whats going wrong?

Hi,

Cairo-Dock in OpenGL is a pre-pre-pre-alpha, it's not really official for now.
So please wait

He meant OpenGL through Glitz
I have the same bug and no solution unfortunately. It works well for some people and not for other, but this problem seems to go beyond Cairo-Dock.
To be sure you can try with an older version of CD, and I think you will get the same result, meaning it's either a driver issue or a libcairo issue.

I bet you have cairo 1.6+ and pixman 1.0+
Strange issue with these new versions. Strangely overinstalling older ones doesn't solve the problem...
Any ideas are welcomed !

I used pixman 0.11.7 (according to the config.h) and cairo 1.7.1. but I also tried the libraries shipped with ubuntu hardy (I recompiled libcairo to include glitz). But it shows the same graphic artefacts. Its sad that hardware accelaration doesent work, cause without it cairo-dock is far to slow to be used in an production environment. So I have to live with the not very pretty but responsive standard gnome interface.

I also don't use glitz but the dock is smooth enough, what kind of pc do you have ?
you should try to optimize the config of the dock (icon's size, wave's amplitude, less icons in the main dock, etc)

My pc is fast enough: Intel Core Duo 4300@1,8ghz; 2GB RAM. I didnt change the configuration for testing, so no additional launchers or plugins. Cairo-Dock is useable in a way, but not smooth enough for me. The iMac dock is a lot more responsive, for example. Considering the responsiveness, cairo-dock with glitz looks promising. But until the display errors arent fixed, I find it unproductive to use.

Do you know where the bug is located? Is it in cairo-dock, or glitz or libcairo? After my exams I got a lot of spare time, so I could have a look.

I'd say probability to be in glitz is 99%. This lib is not maintained anymore, and libcairo continues on its way, so you see the problem.
If you have time and wish to deal with OpenGL, I would recommend you to play with the OpenGL branch of cairo-dock, much more promising I think

I've found that when you run cairo-dock with glitz and fake transparency (cairo-dock -g -F) the excess frames, of course, get cleaned up. Obviously what's happening is as the frames are animated they're not being cleaned properly before the next draw. I'm sure most of you already knew that, though.

even without fake transparency the drawing is not cleaned peoperly for some people (but not for others)
I'm afraid libcairo-1.6 broke the compatibility with glitz.

yah - same issue here .. tested on both ati with aiglx and nvidia ... the nvidia one shows only 10 % of the dock - rest is cut off (the 10 % that shows actually worx really well ) , and the ati is totally screwed as in abstract art ... anyhoo just my $0.02 ... also this was tested with and without compiz with pretty much the same results ..

it is libcairo2 issue or not?
