The "Corbeille" applet woudn't do anything when clicked, so I was trying to add my /home/.local/Trash/files folder to its preferences gui and in the process I clicked ok and a message popped up asking: "are you sure you want to erase ."? To what I answered Yes. (since I woudn' t bother deleting my thrashed files).

The result of this was all my home folder files deleted AND ALL my files from my external HD. (Where all the backup copies resided).

I just don't think one should be able to delete so much in a mouseclick.

Even if it's my mistake at interpreting text. (Didn't know "." meant "everything that truly matters" in linux jargon).

Well,

Cheers

This is strange because I didn't think that you could delete .

At least you can't do it from the bash.

In any case apart from forcing restriction on what can be deleted in the code I don't know how you can prevent the system from doing what you actually told it to do

Sorry about your loss. I hope this didn't put you off the dock !

didn't you put a space after "/home" or something like that ?
the dock just does a "rm -rf /path/you/provided"
I'll check the code in case something is wrong though, I wouldn't want this happens on my fault !
